Mary & Theology

I’ve been writing about Mary since my MA studies where I embarked on a dissertation (supervised by the amazing Dr Mary Cunningham at the University of Nottingham) on Mary and typological allusions to the temple. Since then, the BVM has featured in a range of my writing - I can’t escape her! She’s a sometimes controversial figure for a feminist theologian, but I am convinced that Mary has much to offer contemporary feminist theologies and theologies of the body.

Below you can find links to some of my writings on Mary:

Pre-publication version of “Incarnate Communions: Feminist Re-Viewings of Mary and the Eucharist” which will be published in the volume Visual Communions in 2024.

Pre-publication version of “The Voices of the Marys: Towards a Method in Feminist Trauma Theologies” which was published in Feminist Trauma Theologies: Body, Scripture, and Church in Critical Perspective edited by me and Katie Cross (SCM Press, 2020).

Pre-publication version of “Mary the Crone” which was published in On the Shores of Silence: Conversations in Feminist Practical Theology edited by Ashley Cocksworth, Rachel Starr, and Stephen Burns (SCM Press, 2023).
